Ridgemount Cottage Nursery School takes its name from the cottage grounds in which it is set. The cottage itself is the family home of our owner, Louise. She began the transformation of the cottage’s bakery into Ridgemount Cottage Nursery School back in 1991. Having left her job as a primary school teacher to concentrate on the budding nursery, Louise was finally ready to open the Ridgemount doors in November 1994. Thanks to Louise’s hard work and perseverance, the nursery has transformed since it first opened, when she was the only member of staff and there was only one child!
It now houses specialised rooms for each age group as well as a soft-play zone, Exploration Station and on-site kitchen. The outside space hosts an impressive purpose-built climbing-frame, as well as two spaces designed with the toddlers and under-twos in mind. More recently, the cottage garden has been transformed into an nature area, with a vegetable patch, mucky garden and ex-battery chickens. Despite these changes, the cottage itself has maintained its charm. We plan to continue to enhance this space, starting by planting a woodland area as a way to teach children about the world around them while doing our bit for the environment.
We are proud to be in partnership with Cool Earth. Read more about what this great environmental charity does here.
